In this article I’ll discuss some of the all-time great movies. I’m not trying to be a snob by any stretch of the imagination; I am simply listing the movies I find most memorable. You should see The Shining, Alien, Fight Club, Shawshank Redemption and Se7en. You may even be surprised at some of these films. After all, if you’ve never seen them, you’re missing out!
It Follows
Among the all-time best movies to watch, It Follows is a perfect example of an underrated genre. With its dreary story about a ruthless zombie who passes on an STD, the film has a chilling message against promiscuity. However, the moviesverse suffers from a number of flaws, including flat performances and slow pacing. However, it makes up for this by being incredibly frightening.
Se7en
Although many of the genre conventions from the neo-noir crime thriller Se7en have been deconstructed and reinvented in recent years, there are still some aspects of the movie that remain a defining characteristic of the film in teachertn. Se7en has a visually explosive style that is as horrifying as it is measured without devolving into the usual B-movie sensibility.
Alien
Alien is a landmark horror movie from Ridley Scott. It stars a hard-working crew of a commercial space tug who accidentally discovers a moon full of Xenomorph eggs. Unprepared for their attack, the crew must try to survive as they battle the monsters that are threatening to destroy Earth. The film’s cast includes Harry Dean Stanton, Sigourney Weaver, and Tom Skerritt.
Shawshank Redemption
If you’re looking for a movie to watch over again, you’ve come to the right place. Not only is this prison drama one of the best in its genre, but its vibes are so strong that you’ll find yourself crying at the end. Silver Linings Playbook
There are several reasons to watch Silver Linings Playbook. It is a beautifully crafted, heartwarming, romantic comedy. Bradley Cooper delivers one of his best performances to date. Jennifer Lawrence also has a surprisingly strong role. The two women bond over their common experience of being under-treated by antipsychotic drugs. The film is highly entertaining and will have you hooked from start to finish.
Trainspotting
Although there are several reasons why Trainspotting is one of the all-time best movies to watch, a core reason is that it is a subversive work that uses the medium of cinema to effect change. The film uses a combination of clinically realistic dialogue, horrifying imagery, yucky sequences, and comic-book-like buffer to make its point. While the movie is not flippant or lighthearted in its subject matter, its uplifting ending will leave the viewer feeling good and inspired to make positive change in the world.
Unforgiven
Unlike many other films, Unforgiven is a dark, gritty, and intensely emotional film. It’s also a great example of a movie that isn’t just about killing bad guys. In fact, the film has a major feature that isn’t as much about the characters’ moral character traits as it is about the violence they committed. The main character, Kid, is the one character in the movie you won’t be able to forget.
High Noon
Although John Wayne and Howard Hawks thought High Noon was un-American, it has a timeless, enduring quality. A classic tale of an unfavorable situation, High Noon is an allegory for the McCarthy era, with the Marshal throwing his badge to the ground at the end. While High Noon does not explicitly criticize McCarthy, it does comment on the appeasement of the Appeasers.
Stagecoach
While many people may not associate the name of the movie with the Great Depression, this classic American film reflects many of the social changes that took place during this period. The movie reflects ideas of equality, as traditional “good” people are transformed into ‘bad’ characters. In fact, the film’s villain is a scowling banker, Gatewood, who proclaims that what’s good for the banks is good for the country. Despite the obvious evil, this movie manages to make the characters likable and sympathetic. It also has a thrilling stagecoach chase scene with the stagecoach driver going hell for leather.
